My understanding or Thomas Laurinavicius article
1, Avoiding self-promotion
The goal of self-promotion is to increase sales.  Don't ignore all opportunities
2. Promote the work but not the philosophy
Behind it.
Let people know the purpose of your work.
People don't buy what you do, they buy Why you do it.
Let your philosophy shone through your marketing messages.  Don't be afraid to show your mistakes.
3. Having a lousy web presence
Having a good portfolio is not enough.
Having a YouTube channel.  A blog.  Post on Pinterest.  Facebook.  Tumblr. Instagram.  Email list of fans.
4. Sign your name with first name only
It is impossible to find your art.
Don't put your signature where it could be cropped out.
5. Using poor visuals
Use compelling visuals.  Film your product correctly. Lighting.  Photoshop clean up.
6. Using a cookie cutter
Make a Cohesive and Unique brand and repeat through all your social media channels.
Same Fonts, Colors, Imagery and messaging.
7. Targeting everyone.
Create a marketing plan.  Define your targeting Audience.  Look at past clients.  Who are they?  How did they find you?  why did they buy from you?
8. Relying solely on social media
It allows the artist to build and nurture your fan base.  But do not bombard your fans.  Don't spam.
9. Building your network in the art world only
Other artists are not going to be loyal customers
10. Not Paying attention SEO
Because for thousands of online buyers, if you don’t exist online, you don’t exist at all. And when done right, SEO is basically free advertising.
